Payment

Payment for Meals
Doe Run, Stiegel, and H.C. Burgard Elementary Schools as well as the Middle School and High School operate on the Schoolhouse Point of Sale System. Each student has a cafeteria account and moneys sent in are deposited in their account.

Checks may be made out to MCSD Food Service Dept. There is a $20.00 charge for returned checks.

On the elementary level, low balance and negative balance notices are sent home to parents. At the Middle and High School, students are notified by the cashier when their balance drops below $6.00.

Borrowing Policy
Elementary students who forget their lunch may charge lunch for that day. Payment should be made the following school day. We encourage prepayment for all lunches. Students from families with unpaid charges in excess of twenty dollars ($20) will not be permitted to participate in the regular lunch program. Students from families with unpaid balances in excess of $20 will be given a substitute breakfast and substitute lunch until the account balance is paid. Students will be given a carton of milk and piece of toast in lieu of the regular breakfast and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a carton of milk in lieu of the regular school lunch.
Middle School students who forget their lunch money may charge up to a maximum of three lunches. After the third consecutive charge, a meal will not be provided. Lunch and further credit may be denied until payment is received.
There are no provisions for charging meals at the High School.
Free or Reduced Meals
Each student will receive an application for free and reduced price meals. You must turn in an application every year to continue receiving free and reduced meal benefits. Please return the completed application as soon as possible to make sure your child receives free or reduced meals. If we do not receive an application by October 14, 2010 your benefits will be terminated. If you are applying for free or reduced price meals for the first time, you are responsible for the cost of all meal purchases until your application is approved.
Families that have children attending a public school district can apply online for free or reduced price school meals through the National School Lunch Program. To apply online, visit the COMPASS website at http://www.compass.state.pa.us/. If you apply for free or reduced price school meals through COMPASS, you do not need to submit a paper application.
