Dr. Ellizabeth Massar, Assistant Superintendent
Welcome to the Manheim Central School District’s Curriculum Web Page. As the Assistant Superintendent for the district, one of my responsibilities is coordinating the district’s K-12 Curriculum. I have the responsibility of leading the curriculum development, reviewing and writing processes for the district, as well as, providing clear and ongoing communication to the Superintendent and the Academic Committee about our curriculum progress. Throughout this process, I work with our Curriculum Development Teams, Instructional Facilitators, and Administration. Recommendations from this work are made to the Superintendent and Academic Committee, a School Board Committee comprised of School Board members, teachers, administration, and community members.
Manheim Central School District’s curriculum reflects current thinking and research on what students need to know and be able to do in a global economy. The curriculum is developed, analyzed, and renewed on an on-going basis to provide optimal learning experiences for all of our students. The measure of the success of our curriculum is the evidence of what all of our students are learning at each grade level, in each course, and on state and national assessments. Our focus on student learning is fostered through an emphasis on student growth and progress, the development of deep understandings and the application of the identified content, and continuous improvement throughout the district.
The district is currently undergoing a major K-12 curriculum mapping endeavor. In light of the pending Keystone Exams and the release of the Common Core Standards, this curriculum writing process is being pursued in order to ensure that the district is offering a current, highly cohesive, rigorous, and standards-based curriculum, K-12. As the curriculum mapping process is completed by each department, we will be linking the final curriculum maps to this site.
As a result of combining rigorous curriculum expectations for all students with effective classroom instruction and ongoing staff professional development, the Manheim Central School District is dedicated to providing each child with the opportunities to empower them to achieve their maximum potentials. It is through our combined efforts, shared vision, leadership, teamwork, pride and commitment to our students and to their achievements, the Manheim Central School District offers our students an educational experience that prepares them to become successful and productive citizens.
