AlerNow Messaging System

Manheim Central School District's mass notification system

What is Alert Now?

Alert-Now works like this: via an automated dialing system, you will receive a call initiated by the Superintendent of Schools, the Director of Student Services, your school Principal or a designated member of school district staff.  The primary uses of the system will be to notify you of delayed openings, early dismissals, school closings and emergencies.  This will enable the district to disseminate information to each of our families in the most time efficient manner possible.

How will the system be used?
  • School Closings/Delayed Openings/Early Dismissals
    • Calls will be placed to two primary phone numbers.  In addition to using Alert-Now for this purpose, the district will continue to communicate school closing announcements via our website and local television and radio stations.
    • *Note - Messages regarding unplanned early dismissals will be sent as an emergency message.  This means that all contact numbers will be called.
  • Important Communications
    • The district/schools will send parents/guardians calls to the primary phone numbers to remind them of upcoming events, to provide general information or in the event that an activity should need to be rescheduled.
  • Emergency
    • In extreme emergency situations, the message may provide critical information and/or emergency instructions. Messages of this nature will be distributed to your two primary phone numbers and up to three emergency phone numbers provided to us.

*Please be sure to let your emergency contacts know that if the district/school sends out an emergency message, that they will receive a call.
    Other Important Details:
    1. You may press 1 at any time to hear the message play through again from the beginning, or if the message does not play or is broken up.
    2. Your caller ID will display the district's weather/emergency phone line (664-8549) or your school’s main number anytime a call is coming through from the school. Caller ID will not display a name associated with the number.
    3. Your caller ID will display 411 anytime an emergency call is coming through from the school. Caller ID will not display a name associated with the number.
    4. The system will leave a message on your voicemail or answering machine. If you have a Telemarketer Zapper or Privacy Director on your telephone lines you may not receive the call. For example, with Privacy Director all incoming calls are rerouted and the callers must identify themselves for the call to go through. Because our system is automated it will not identify itself thus the call will not get through to your number.
