Emergency Preparedness and General Information

Should an emergency situation ever arise within the district or in the immediate area while school is in session, Manheim Central School District has a detailed plan formulated to respond to both human-caused and natural disasters. You can feel comfortable knowing Manheim Central School District is providing a safe environment for your children.
In the case of an emergency occuring during school hours, students will be cared for at the school (or at a predetermined evacuation site) until a parent can pick them up, or until it is safe to transport students to their homes by school district transportation.

During an Emergency:

  • Do not call the school. Telephone lines will be needed for emergency purposes. Parents and guardians will be notified of the situation by a district representative. This notification may occur by phone, internet, letter, and/or general media.
  • For additional information relating to the emergency, parents and guardians should access the district website www.manheimcentral.org, or dial the Emergency/Weather phone line (717-664-8549).
  • In the event of a serious emergency or disaster, parents will be given instructions via the district website, the Emergency/Weather phone line or on a local radio and/or television station. CLICK HERE.
  • When it is safe, parents/guardians or a responsible adult who has been identified on the "School Emergency Information Card" may pick up students. If it becomes necessary for you to pick up your child at school (or an evacuation site) during an emergency, it is imperative that student/parent reunion procedures be followed. This is for the safety of all of our students. These procedures will be posted at the reunion/school pick up site. School representatives will be available to assist you at the reunion site.

NOTE: When authorizing another person on the emergency card to assume responsibility for your child, please consider the following:

~ They are 18 years of age or older

~ They are usually home during the day

~ They could walk to school if necessary

~ They are known to your child

~ They are both aware of and able to assume this responsibility
